Ms. Soraya Hassan

Member of the second generation group of weavers.

Soraya Hassan was born in 1965, Harrania village. Her father was an ordinary farmer.

She attended the local primary school at the age of six till 16. When Soraya  was 11, she joined the young kids whom came to the centre after school and during summer holidays to weave and play, later they were the group started the second generation weavers with Suzanne back in 1972.

Soraya's strong passion for weaving, permits the discovery of the endless capabilities of the weaving technique. her subject matter vary from depicting village stories and farmer’s activates in the fields, to market places, the sea and garden landscapes with their detailed flowers and cactus. Her tapestries have been part of the centre’s collection since the mid 80’s exhibited world wide.

Soraya is marred with 3 children. Her eldest is 28 years old.
